Birthday Poem

That Scene in Mulholland Drive
with Rita on the bed sobbing,
“I don’t know who I am.”

Every breath is a death.

A convenient rhyme
but that’s not what this is
because what this is
is nothing.

Automatically assuming
loud neighbors
are bad people.

Cow tails
like rope
dangling
side to side.
