Two Poems by Michael Borth

The Residential Condominium Community

We threw frisbees into the graves
Under the high rainbowcolored anomaly
Kiteshaped and ephemeral against clouds
Portending the very green commons they
Put shadows to for the worship of the sun

When we kissed in the dusk of the plague
You would later say that you felt nothing
After beer at a leaning table beside onionfields
We studied the years of our world wandering
To return as adults who needed our parents’ cars

You long for tropical humidity and me a desert
And I was lullabied to friction by your room
Traced by the pale searchers of the highway
As the dreamcatcher became a barren rain net
To rouse our comforts into oceanblue propulsion

The Mosquito

I monitored with fascination my own disappearance.
The rattling of the dry palm leaves. The candle of í
Tilting the institutional ceremony of the coastal night.
A mosquito through the keyhole. Parasites in the food.
You pray for help and the buzzsaw replies. The world
Is a butcher. From childhood to the deterioration of the
Spine. In the burning posters of the station that send
Vague reminders of the fallen epoch of hope. When
There was a mind to petition. When blind service was
A way to bargain. But everything bends toward the
Tyranny of light. To a darkness that reifies caustic and
Magenta. In a pretext of venomous flies. A maggot in
The bowl of raw wheat. The insects are right to die so
Soon. But even that, the heated search for sex and
Buried food, must be a long eternity. Whether winged
Or partitioned to elongate and contract in lucid soil. I
Reappear in the corrosions of structure. Rust on my dry
Tongue. Dreaming of a pure golden yolk held in the palm
Of my right hand. In a high room of screens. Kept away
From their programmatic recitation. A layer tree of the
Mantra. The denial or acceptance of a leader. A method
In the scream of shifting carbon. I intuit another game
Of the intellect denying the uncut pain of the heart. We
Enter the kingdom of memory to deny the wild flames.
