Two Poems by Ben Niespodziany

Hungover Pilot

America’s floor
is full

of checks
stapled

to ancient
boards.

To tear
is to wake

the praying
bear.

To walk away
with nothing

might also
get you killed.

Pressure

[1]

Pressure
benefits
from more
pressure.
I don’t know
where I
read that.
The weather
man is wearing
nothing
but rain.
We should help.

[2]

Did you hear
the one about
the gun
malfunctioning
on set of that Alec
Baldwin film?
Chocolat. No, Kindergarten
Cop
. That’s the one.
How limited
we can be in our
tellings of so many
said truths.
